I SHOULD like to respond to Norman Roper’s letter (no relation) in Thursday’s Oxford Mail.

The removal of the triple lock from state pensions won’t affect those claiming pension credits, and those like myself fortunate enough to have an inflation proof company pension wouldn’t miss it, or the winter fuel allowance.

I do strongly object to his bland acceptance of the government taking most of the value of my home when I and my wife have gone.

I bought my home for a variety of reasons, firstly the pride of ownership, even with maintenance costs factored in, secondly I wanted to choose where I lived, and more importantly having something of substance to leave to my three children without any government getting their grubby hands on it.

I note Mr Roper refers to not leaving it to any of his siblings, from that I would assume he has no children, I wouldn’t leave it to my siblings either.

I never asked to be invited into this vale of tears, like everyone else I had no choice in the matter, but should I find myself slipping into some Twilight Zone and spend my waking hours dribbling into my porridge I shall leave this world on my terms, my children might not inherit the earth Mr Roper but my home they certainly will.
