THE manager of the new Westgate Centre wants buses banned from Queen Street as they were for a previous period when the Rose Hill bus stop was moved to the top of the High Street where the pavement is congested and narrow.

This caused waiting bus passengers to block free passage of passing pedestrians, causing many of them to step into the road to get past. A much more dangerous situation than buses in Queen Street.

Another result was increased bus traffic in the already over-used St Aldate’s.

I would think bus stops in Queens would benefit the Westgate. Those wishing to ban buses from Queen Street include the safety aspects, so it would be interesting to hear the accident record in Queen Street whilst open to buses.
