IT cannot be right that one in eight of Oxford residents is banned from voting in the General Election. I refer of course to the 13 per cent of us who are residents of Oxford but nationals of another European country.

In the recent county council elections, all European Union nationals could and often did vote. In this poll, French, Polish, Portuguese and others cannot take part, no matter how long they have lived in Oxford.

It is high time non-British nationals were allowed to vote in General Elections too. The outcome of the June 8 vote and its impact on Brexit negotiations will have a profound effect on non-Britain Europeans in our city.
