IT WAS good of Matt Oliver (‘Neighbours tell of anger at plan for 2,000 homes’, Oxford Mail, May 4) to attend the meeting on May 2 at the Barton Neighbourhood Centre on the Wick Farming Limited’s proposals for, homes out in Oxford’s Green Belt immediately north and east of Barton and Wick Farm.

Pity, though, that in his report Mr Oliver didn’t mention the 52 households on Wick Farm who will be most directly hit by Harry Aubrey-Jones’ ambitions for Green Belt urbanisation. Mr Oliver quotes Mr Aubrey-Jones that South Oxfordshire District Council would, should his plans go ahead “need to mitigate any loss of Green Belt land and open space”.

Well how? Once the Green Belt has been killed, it can’t be brought back to life.

And if Christ Church treasurer James Lawrie’s 1,500 and more homes fill in the rest of the Green Belt down to the Marston flyover, then what? Mitigation?

Mr Aubrey-Fletcher adds: “We also remain committed to providing truly affordable housing”.

Does this mean that people on incomes between £14,000 and £30,000 per annum will be offered either subsidised rents or discounts to buy of 50-60 per cent?

Are Wick Farming Ltd and Berkeley Homes planning to set up a housing charity to make this possible?

Mr Aubrey-Fletcher will be attending a meeting organised by Wick Farm residents at the Barton Neighbourhood Centre tonight, from 6.30pm.

No doubt all will be explained!
