THE voters of Oxfordshire must be pleased that city and county councillor John Tanner has publicly expressed his cold, heartless and uncaring feelings at the working poor and those who nightly sleep on the streets of our affluent city.

He said he would like to say to the homeless that they are “a disgrace”. (Oxford Mail, Feb 21)

The real “disgrace” is that Oxford people have voted for this childish Labour city and county councillor, who clearly cares nothing for the majority of his voters who have placed their trust in him.

With Oxford’s high rents, most of the working poor of our city are only two wage packets away from homelessness and destitution. One would have thought that Mr Tanner ought to be aware that many of his voters live with this precarious economic situation – one in which illness alone could trigger homelessness.

Homelessness is actually a real prospect for many of Mr Tanner’s voters who live on Oxford’s average wage.
