COUNCILLOR Tanner once again writes a letter to the Oxford Mail. Why?

Is it to wind people up or is it because he is not listened to in council meetings because he talks such drivel.

Brexit and the election of Donald Trump happened because politicians of his ilk did not listen to the people.

It could happen again in 2017 with national elections due to take place in France, Germany and the Netherlands and, if what has happened in the UK and the USA is replicated, the EU dream is in serious trouble.

As for being European. No, we are part of Europe but we are British. Do you think the Chinese and Indian governments tell their people that they are Asians? No.

On overseas aid: yes, I believe that we should help in crises around the planet but should we be sending money to China, India, or Brazil, where they have blossoming economies? No.

We should look after the sick, the vulnerable and the homeless in the UK first and foremost.

To raise more money for our communities, we should reduce the number of councillors and politicians.

In Oxford, yes, we should build more homes, but the first priority in this city appears to be looking after students.

On refugees: yes we need to assist but we need to get an infrastructure in place in this country first or our homeless problems just multiply.

The British people voted, stop the lunacy of ignoring the will of the people and accept it and plan a way forward.

If our politicians cannot do this then step aside and let others try.
