I’VE no idea what school they were from, but I must pay tribute to the children and teachers of the large group of young school children visiting Cowley centre at about 1pm on Tuesday this week.

I spotted them to my right – four to five dozen of them at least – as I approached the crossing from Blackbird Leys in my van about eight vehicles back at the old Post Office/community centre crossing and assumed I’d be there long enough to grow a beard.

Being old, tired and grumpy is clearly no excuse for impatience.

How wrong then was I.

So I must congratulate those teachers who clearly all understood what to do as the lights went through several sequence changes, but also all the children who were so orderly crossing in small groups. The lady in the road was a quality beach master (is that beach person nowadays?).

Schools and their pupils get a lot of negative attention when things go wrong, so I thought it worth a mention.

Really nice to see. Fair play to them, one and all.
