THE plans for the A40 quite clearly show the recent expenditure of over £9.5m in North Oxford was a failure.

If the upgrade came anywhere close to solving the problem there would be no need for a bus lane, would there?

When the Northern Gateway begins we will be back to the chaos of the last couple of years.

The only ‘road’ solution to the traffic problem is to bypass North Oxford completely, not ask folk to learn to drive, buy a car, then use the park-and-ride.

So taking all that’s gone before into consideration, and that government now believes in the railways again, we should be pressing for the reinstatement of the Witney Line without delay.

I’m more than happy for my taxes to be spent in that direction, rather than converting two egalitarian roundabouts into discriminating fairy light monstrosities.
