SEVERAL weeks ago the county council was able to find funding to resurface the wide pavement and replace much of the kerbstones along the Marston Road for a distance of well over 100 yards, maybe 200, near the new Islamic Centre.

As the pavement, etc, was in a fairly good state, I can only assume that this exercise was intended for the impending grand opening, whenever that may be, of the centre to impress the dignitaries that will assemble there.

At the beginning of the operation, there was a sign saying works in operation or whatever for a period of 15 days, but it actually took a month.

I thought perhaps the Islamic Centre was paying for this, but I have it on good authority that the local taxpayer picked up the tab for the work.

Now I’ve no objection to this work being done, but I do object to the fact that the county maintains that it has no money to repair, properly, road and pavements in the residential streets of Marston and other areas around the City of Oxford.
