I WAS saddened to read of the death of Joe Smith OBE (Oxford Mail, November 17). I worked as the secretary for his team at the Churchill Hospital during the late 60s early 70s when I left to have my first child.
As a boss, he had that air about him that you wanted to do your very best, and we did, knowing it was appreciated and he always thanked us for a job well done.
I would also like to mention that he worked alongside Dr Leddingham, consultant physician, developing treatments for renal problems, and I am sure many people today owe their lives, and their quality of life to the pioneering work that they did together.
My condolences to his family
