I REFER to your article Witney Oxford transport group spokesman Maurizio Fantato’s comments regarding reopening of the Witney Oxford railway.

It would appear that Mr Fantato hasn’t given much realistic consideration to the idea. Surely a reopened railway would essentially be on a Witney-Eynsham-Oxford line.

There is no case for reinstating any of the original intermediate stations on the old line and, therefore, a more direct route might be considered.

A new railway would have the potential to convey over 100 passengers, or a train of three coaches or short platforms such as at Hanborough; speedily and reliably.

Mr Fantato’s predication that reinstating the original railway wouldn’t work is probably true, but I don’t believe people would want that anyway.
