A PENSIONER sought my assistance regarding their blue badge renewal.

Their encounter with some Oxfordshire County Council bod left them highly distressed and visibly shaken.

The employee told the pensioner someone in the family must have a computer. How dare they!

The council should be mindful that not everyone has a computer. Even if they have one they may not want to apply for things online for fear of security breaches.

I went on to the council website with the object of printing off a blue badge renewal form for the person to complete manually.

The option was no longer there. This option needs to be reinstated.

In the end we went to County Hall and the person we spoke to was most helpful.

The application was successfully dealt with within approximately five minutes.

County council staff are public servants, there to serve the public.

If certain people do not want to do that they should work elsewhere.

If the council previously issued a blue badge surely that means an acceptance that the individual concerned has genuine health problems.

Therefore when it comes to them renewing – the council should be there to assist, not to bully.
