SOME of your readers may be unaware of a change in the law which means that from the September 1 you need to be covered by a TV Licence to watch or download BBC programmes on demand on BBC iPlayer – including catch-up TV.
This applies to all devices. As before, you still need a TV Licence to watch or record live TV on any channel, on all devices.
We have recently conducted a survey which demonstrates that many households struggle to understand TV terminology.
Some phrases are very familiar to TV viewers but others are less wellknown, including important terms such as ‘on demand’.
The survey revealed that almost 10% of people in the South East mistakenly think the term means a subscription or rental service, rather than TV content which is available anytime, anywhere, whenever you want at a time to suit you.
I would urge readers who are unsure about whether they do or do not need a licence to visit: www. tvlicensing.co.uk/iplayerinfo
