WITH reference to Jane Reeves’ letter regarding trains in Switzerland I too have recently returned from Austria and the trains there were just as efficient as in Switzerland, yet when I returned to the UK it took me five hours to travel from Gatwick airport to Reading owing to cancelled trains, signalling faults and strikes.
So I had to return via London, it took me two trains and three underground trains and the Paddington to Reading train was absolutely crammed with people, even first class ticket holders were having to stand!
In fairness there had been a bad thunderstorm the night before but I am sure they have a lot worse to contend with in these other countries.
