I AGREE that average speed cameras (much as I dislike them) are the only way to control traffic on the A34.
Reducing the speed limit to 50 would do nothing to stop the idiot drivers who regularly pass me at well over 70 as their chances of being caught are remote.
When there was a temporary 50mph section recently near the Ridgeway, I noticed that very few drivers even bothered to slow down as there were no cameras.
The faster the speed the more likely there are to be fatalities in any crash, but hoping to reduce speed by reducing the official speed limit is simply wishful thinking.
Put in average speed cameras and drivers will have to slow down and then, just perhaps, a few lives will be saved.
