IT IS asked, “Who is to blame for the carnage on the A34?”.

It is not the road, it is not the Local Authority, it is not the Government, it is the nut holding the steering wheel. Yes, it’s the drivers. If we all stuck to the speed limits, observed the Highway Code and observed the Rules of the Road, then there would be far fewer serious accidents.

But what would a 50mph speed limit do? Just drive along the 50mph limit through Botley and it appears that the limit only applies to vehicles in the left hand lane. Drivers in the right hand lane travel at far greater speed than those of us in the left hand lane, some, I am sure, at more than 70mph. No, drivers have got to be educated to observe the rules of the road and consider everyone else who uses the roads.

I have noticed that the only time speed limits are observed is when drivers are travelling along a road with average speed cameras. Perhaps this is the answer.

Eynsham Road in Botley has a 30mph speed limit and many drivers exceed this, some by many miles per hour, outside our front gate.
