“SHOCK and Awe” was the code name given by the US- and UK-led 2003 war in Iraq: the US Secretary of State Madeline Albright acknowledged that sanctions alone had already taken the lives of 500,000 Iraqi children prior to the start of “Shock and Awe” and surely celebrating our youth’s exam success with the front page headline “shock and awe” is a discourteous and tasteless way of honouring the youth of Oxford.
