REGARDING the report (Oxford Mail, August 12, ‘Blaze damages academic building’) in particular the comment from a librarian who is quoted as saying “Hopefully the damage isn’t too bad. I’m worried the water may go down into the basement where the books are”.
Having worked for the University Security Services this is typical of academics when an emergency situation has the audacity to disrupt their little world.
“I don’t care how many of my colleagues could have been injured or worse in the fire as long as my books are okay”. Try thinking before speaking in future.
