I READ with anger and frustration your recent article regarding Mr John Cotton’s and SODC’s proposal and support for housing at Chalgrove Airport, as opposed to the obvious site at Grenoble Road in Oxford.

If it is Mr Cotton’s and the council’s duty to co-operate with Oxford City Council to meet the rising housing needs of this area, why, for crying out loud, is he passing over a scrubby piece of peripheral land next to Oxford’s biggest housing estate, with all of its ready-made infrastructure, and a more than convenient site, for Chalgrove, which has no infrastructure and sits in a lovely area of outstanding beauty and would be totally ruined and overwhelmed by this development.

I’m so sick of both councils’ irresponsibility at not finding the solution to these housing needs. The green belt site at Grenoble Road should be taken out and the thousands of houses Oxford needs built on land adjacent to Oxford, not in such a beautiful rural location such as Chalgrove. Use common sense, Mr Cotton, and get together with the other dithering, procrastinators at Oxford City Council and get the houses built in Oxford.
