I NOTE the support given to the reduction in the visual impact of the Castle Mill flats, and indeed the ‘before and after’ shots do indicate a significant improvement – or do they?
On further inspection it is clear that buildings in the ‘after’ picture are approx 15 per cent smaller than in the ‘before’. Unsurprisingly the whole impact is apparently significantly lower, but only as a consequence of the photographic perspective rather than the architectural reality.
This type of sharp practice borders on fraud and it is sad that even the pressure group Save Port Meadow have been taken in.
The whole Castle Mill fiasco has been a shambles and all parties concerned, University or Council, have shown an unacceptable level of arrogance, indifference and/or incompetence. This type of behaviour does nothing to improve the tarnished reputation of those concerned.
