I HOPE every Oxford Mail reader will use their vote in the quite unnecessary European Referendum. Every single vote will count. So I ask just three questions.

Is it likely that German company, BMW, will put future investment into the Oxford car plant if Britain leaves? This country outside the European Union would have to pay a tariff (or tax) every time we wanted to sell an Oxford mini to the rest of Europe.

Who is to blame for pressure on schools, hospitals and housing? Blaming hard-working, tax-paying, migrants makes as much sense as blaming old age pensioners or Swindon Town supporters. It is Conservative spending cuts that are damaging public services.

Is it likely that Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson and Michael Gove will put more money into public services if Britain votes out? Their track record is campaigning for austerity, tax cuts for the wealthy and reducing both workers’ rights and environmental standards.

There is strong and growing support to Remain in the Oxford area. My worry is how people will vote in the rest of Britain. We need every Oxford Mail voter to outweigh the Leave voters elsewhere.
