DR HAZEl Dawe of the Oxfordshire Green Party states that opposition to the TTIP trade deal in the European parliament has caused significant concessions (letters May 5).

This is one reason she gives for supporting our membership of the EU. It should be noted that a massive online petition by "Stop TTIP" of over 3 million signatures was presented to the European Parliament in October 2015, which undoubtedly forced this delay.

Nevertheless, in April of this year, President Obama and Mrs Merkel vowed to press ahead with TTIP "to save the eurozone economy".

The TTIP negotiations have been held in secret – clearly they are afraid of the people.

EU President Jean Claude Juncker recently said that European leaders spend "too much time listening to their voters"! What contemptuous arrogance.

The problem with the EU is that it hates democracy. Voters, to them, are merely an inconvenience who get in their way.

I hope all who vote in the Referendum will bear in mind that our democracy may not be perfect but it is far preferable to living in a dictatorship. As for the Greens, they are well-intentioned but sadly often lack a grip on reality.

As the saying has it, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions". The reality here is that on June 23rd we are voting between democracy and dictatorship.
