HOW can the county council be so insensitive to the old and disabled people of Cutteslowe and Jericho by taking away the bus subsidy on the number 17 bus, our only form of public transport, and leaving us isolated in open prison conditions unable to keep our essential appointments?

We have a free bus pass but will have no bus.

I am 81 yeas of age, disabled and find to get to the main road which is ‘a bridge too far’.

I have lived and worked in Oxford since 1954 and have never known Cutteslowe without a bus service, in fact the number 2 used to service us before being rerouted to Kidlington.

Is it possible to reroute one every hour seven days a week to allow for churchgoers and the farmers’ market – such a lot happens on a Sunday.

I call on the county council to show honour, decency and a sense of responsibility to reconsider the subsidy towards the number 17 bus or find an alternative travel arrangement, thus giving the elderly and disabled people of Cutteslowe and Jericho the quality of life they richly deserve.

How much is the subsidy? Could it be possible to get help, on humanitarian grounds, through the EU?
