MUCH is being said about the kerbstones in Frideswide Square breaking up (Oxford Mail, May 7).

Buses and larger vehicles are thought to be causing the damage. so they say.

I wonder how much is down to poor workmanship or inferior materials.

Wasn’t it £3.7m of taxpayers’ money spent on this and remedial work had to be done in some locations along the Iffley Road which was only rebuilt including the foundations in the last couple of years?

Then there was Cornmarket which had to be resurfaced several years ago because of inferior materials all at the local taxpayers’ expense.

I hope that the current works on the A40 will have a longer lifetime especially after the length of time it’s taking. Frideswide works better with traffic flow without the lights so I cannot understand why the planners wish to remove the roundabouts at the junction of Marsh Lane and Cherwell Drive, etc, in Marston and replace them with traffic lights.

It’s about time the county spent taxpayers’ money on repairing our roads instead of completely altering road layouts which in the case of the access to Headington will be a complete waste of public funding as it won’t improve congestion at peak times.
