YOUR ‘On yer bike’ columnist, Ian Leggett (Oxford Mail, May 3), recommends segregated cycle lanes as a means of reducing congestion and encouraging cycling; but they are not recommended for urban areas by the Department of Transport because of the problems and dangers they create at inter sects with side streets and, might be added, at bus stops.
I do not recall anyone producing a sketch plan for a lane running the length of Cowley Road, for example.
