JOHN Tanner’s letter (April 21) promotes staying in the EU. He says that jobs in Oxford will be at risk if we leave.

He mentions the BMW car plant, the universities and science project at Culham.

Why should BMW leave when they have spent millions setting up their operation and are making huge profits?

The same goes for Culham, why would it move elsewhere at huge costs? As for the universities, I fail to see a problem there as people from all over the world have come to study here for many years and will continue to do so.

As for job losses, what about Ford moving their Transit van plant to Turkey which isn’t in the EU? What about job losses there?

Then there is our steel industry where thousands of jobs are going. What about Didcot power station prematurely closing due to an EU directive with the loss of many jobs?

I could go on and all of this happening while we are a member of the EU and our gutless Government is powerless to do anything because of EU ruling.

John Tanner says it’s an outrage that citizens of other European nations are banned from voting. I would have thought that a man of his standing would have known that any such person not being a British subject is not eligible to vote in an election here.

If the vote would be to leave the EU, how long would it be before other member states would consider leaving?

No-one knows for sure what will happen if we left. I would suspect that there are many thousands of wealthy people in this country who are worried about their personal investments in being in the EU and are not worried about how the rest of the population are affected by remaining in.

Only time will tell, but whatever the decision, to leave or stay, anything that David Cameron claims he has gained by pursuing reforms with the EU will be overridden by the unelected powers that be and Britain will be punished for even contemplating leaving the club, even if it’s a remain within vote.
