AS USUAL David Cameron MP is barking up the wrong tree. The reason schools, hospitals and road repairs are under pressure has nothing to do with migrants.
It has everything to do with extra tax breaks for the very wealthy and cutbacks to public services by his Government.
Of course every European should be treated the same whatever country they happen to live in. The idea that Poles, Greeks and Germans should have to work in Britain for four years before they are entitled to state help is daft as well as unfair.
It is those same young hard-working migrants who keep Oxford’s car factory, the NHS and our restaurants operating. It is their taxes that help to pay for Britain’s pensions, universities and police.
Without a steady stream of new workers, this country would be much poorer.
Oxford has always welcomed migrants from Wales, Ireland, Pakistan and now eastern Europe. Instead of attacking migrants, the Prime Minister should be demanding Europe-wide taxes on big companies to stop firms like Google dodging their fair share of tax.
