I AM glad to read of the support being given to the fight against the closure of children’s centres in Oxfordshire; but I hope that all the media coverage is not at the expense of an equally (maybe more) important injustice, being perpetrated by Oxfordshire County Council’s proposal of swingeing cuts to the Adult Social Care budget.

This threat, if carried out, will affect a large number of vulnerable people, and will have huge ramifications for all those who are dedicated to caring, supporting and working with them.

I write to ask you all to be vociferous in supporting the “Don’t Cut Care” campaign, to ensure that those in our society who are most affected by the proposals, i.e. the elderly, lonely, disabled, depressed, those with mental health issues and sufferers of dementia, have their voices heard.

These people, by their very nature, are not able to go to meetings, respond to online consultations, use Twitter or other social media.

They cannot man the barricades, organise or even take part in protests, all they can do is hope that their plight will arouse the compassion that is in all of us.

The county council says that it will fulfil its legal obligations to those who cannot afford to pay, but if there are no day centres, support groups or care homes, it doesn’t matter whether you can pay or not.

The NHS in Oxfordshire will need many more beds to accommodate all those failed by the county council.
