THIS government is now hurting many ordinary people with its inexorable aim to save money.

The House of Lords was right to overturn the unfair decision to cut tax credits.

Not since the halcyon days of the Liberal David Lloyd George have the Lords wielded such political power.

Many Liberal peers used their noble weight and vetoed the cuts.

This is rather ironic as both the recent Lib Dem leaders actually said that the House of Lords should be abolished!

The Lib Dems need to think more strategically if they are to ever regain credibility.

There are many principled and highly skilled members of the House of Lords and we should be thankful for their guidance.

This government now looks rather foolish.

However, the House of Lords should certainly not be punished as they upheld the interests of the people.

The government has broken its pre-election promise not to cut tax credits and therefore has no electoral mandate to impose these cuts nor to punish the noble Lords.
