IN YOUR article about fly-tipping, deputy council leader Rodney Rose said: “I struggle to see why law-abiding citizens would suddenly become fly-tippers just because they have to travel five minutes to one of the other recycling sites.”

Well, hopefully speaking on behalf of many of the council tax payers, I object to his sound bite that has no substance. It is a 15-minute journey for me to get to my local site, to go to the next nearest site takes 35 minutes. Either Mr Rose has no knowledge of where the sites are or he expects us all to break the speed limit.

This is another area where basic law-abiding citizens can be over the speed limit and get points and a fine which bears no relationship to where petty criminals consciously break into cars and homes and receive less of a penalty.

Surely Mr Rose is a councillor to help council tax payers be good citizens, not telling us what to do.
