THE Oxford Mail on Friday, October 2, reflects an ongoing debate in our society.

Historically the so-called European refugee crisis may well prove to be a turning point. Our response represents the worth of our democracy and our basic humanity.

Individuals and their networks/organisations do what they can.

Dr Morningstar and the Headington Greens are one of many diverse strands rising to the challenge.

Bill MacKeith is often featured in your pages and well-respected by the readership.

Both Oxford & District Trades Council and the organisation it founded, the Campaign to Close Campsfield, play vital roles in welcoming refugees and making Oxford a City of Sanctuary.

However, Jeremy Corbyn got there (and whatever he represents) it’s good to have a real opposition leader again which gives us an opportunity.

Education and agitation are one side of the coin. Solidarity remains the key – action speaks louder than words. Now’s the time to act and organise ourselves for a future worth living.
