HAVING read a notice put up by the county council on sign posts in Old Marston Road I was wondering who decides plans of action.

The notice informs residents that the council is going to resurface this road starting on September 7, with the road closed for through traffic for three days.

Alternative routes are suggested, and for three days only it is no real inconvenience for anyone.

I was wondering why the council painted double yellow lines and the broken white lines for limited parking bays on this road only a couple of weeks ago knowing that they were going to resurface it.

This seems a classic case of wasting taxpayers’ money, albeit a fairly minor issue, but it makes one wonder how much else is wasted, especially in these times of cutbacks in welfare etc.

Perhaps if they were to have a barrow of Tarmac spare, would it be possible to fill in the potholes at the end of Mortimer Drive at the junction with Oxford Road?
