REGARDING alternatives to the level crossing in London Road, Bicester.

Suggestions of a tunnel or a bridge seem crazy to me and the cost would be millions of pounds.

With the temporary closure of London Road due to the current work being carried out on the railway, alternative routes into and out of the town centre have had to be found.

These usually follow the S5/X5 bus route along Queen’s Avenue/St John’s Street, or the one via Charbridge Lane/Launton Road favoured by local buses.

Would these be the answer you are looking for? There may be some bottlenecks along the way, but with appropriate road improvements here and there where possible, they offer by far the cheapest option. So couldn’t the temporary become permanent?

Yes, car journeys will take an extra couple of miles, but is this really such a hardship?

Some people may think it is unacceptable, but this may be because of that well-known human trait: reluctance, and even resistance, to accepting change.

Thanks in part to politicians, change constantly affects our lives at various levels, and we learn to accommodate it, otherwise...

Not all change is good, of course, and the renaming of a certain railway station springs to mind.
