VIRTUALLY every day now the A34 is blocked as a result of accidents.
It follows that this puts extra demand on all branches of the emergency services. How many people are injured? How many hours are lost by goods being stuck in these hold-ups, especially as the drivers of lorries are then put under pressure to drive faster to get to their delivery/collection points.
Financial cuts have decimated the availability of officers to carry out patrols which I submit contribute to prevention of such incidents. Surely cutting back active patrolling is a false economy and the sooner the Government realises this the better for all of us.
The sight of a police vehicle manned by keen police officers patrolling the A34 has so many advantages and its worth cannot be calculated.
