FURTHER to B Gibbs letter in the Oxford Mail (August 24) regarding the horrendous parking charges in Oxford City centre.
This reminds me of when I ran a guesthouse during the 90s in Iffley Road.
I had a group of guests from America. Three went out exploring the beautiful city while one stayed in his room.
When I asked him why, his reply floored me.
He said he would not get a bus, and he asked why Oxford did not have more foresight regarding parking and knock down a few of those old colleges and make car parks.
I had a vision of High Street minus a couple of colleges but multi-storeys in their place.
Perhaps this is the view of B Gibbs.
Oxford is a beautiful city, there is no doubt about that. B Gibbs compares it to Reading, Swindon and Southampton. Where is the beauty there?
Oxford can be compared to Cambridge, Bath and Canterbury.
The city has to be protected against fuel fumes destroying our beautiful buildings.
I just love walking over Magdalen Bridge on a sunny day, the gateway to the city I call it.
Park-and-rides are a great idea to keep cars out of the city.
I always catch the bus, stop in the city centre and if I have shopping, I take my trolley (not cool I know).
