I USED to work for a hotel chain that used tips on credit cards to make up your wage – I think it was like 70 per cent wage from employer 30 per cent from tips. If anything over 30 per cent was left you would get it.
I do not tip any more. I pay for the food, and service is integral to that.
I hate restaurants that put on a service charge as well. And when I ask for it to be taken off I feel a tad embarrassed.
I work in a store where I have to give advice on products.
I have to get the stock, take the money and then make sure the store is stocked and tidy for next day – just like advising on a menu, getting the food, taking the money and clearing the table. I do not get tips.
