I AM somewhat unimpressed having read that more than £17,000 of taxpayers’ money has been spent on repairs during the past seven years caused by police officers filling their patrol cars with the wrong fuel (Oxford Mail, August 3).
There have been 13 incidents this year and 19 last year – why didn’t a strict warning go out to all officers to be extra vigilant when fuelling their cars?
A few years ago while in possession of a company car I made a mistake and filled my diesel car with petrol. I would not have considered expecting my employer to pay, it was my own fault and I paid the costs myself.
Surely if a police officer, or anybody else to that matter, has made such an error he or she should take responsibility and pay the full costs themselves. I feel it is outrageous that the repairs should have to be paid for by the taxpayer.
