THE letter re the Ampleforth from Janet Surman is the most accurate thus far, but it’s a pity that the Oxford Mail chose to edit my letter, which also confirmed Mrs Miller as the housekeeper/cook and not Mrs Janie King-Moore as stated by Margaret Taylor.

For that reason alone Janet you are wrong to tell me to get my facts right. I am right!

As for CS Lewis not using the pub Janet, this time you are wrong.

He used the back room, sat quietly near the bar with JRR Tolkien and no doubt discussing “Middle Earth” which most on Risinghurst wouldn’t understand anyway, but a fact recorded in my paperback and then the ebook CS Lewis in Oxford: A Guide for Visitors.

On the subject of Lewis and The Kilns, has anybody given any thought or consideration to the stagnant, dead pond/lake up there? I wrote to the Oxford Mail editor years ago warning of the dangers of West Nile Virus. It was ignored totally, but check it out before it’s too late and see who is right again.
