BRIAN Duffy (May 21) has a point. Housing benefit enriches landlords, allowing them to increase rents above what rents would have been without the intervention of housing benefit.
Yet landlords are not the only ones to gain. Housing benefit allows employers to pay rubbish wages. Landlords and employers in short are being subsidised by the tax payer.
The housing benefit should be renamed the landlord and employers benefit scheme.
