You report (May 2) that a WH Smith, a Marks & Spencer food store and a cafe are being built at the JR.

Apparently the director of development at the OUHT has said this will enhance the patient experience.

This is management-speak for the commercial exploitation of sick people and their anxious relatives.

What would really “enhance the patient experience” would be to get a bed when needed, not this private finance nonsense.

If the NHS is paying the aforesaid director’s salary, which is no doubt handsome, that is one expense that should be saved right away.
