How happy I was to see advertised that from Thursday, April 23, until Sunday, April 26, a French antiques market was coming to Abingdon.

As someone who is disabled and doesn’t get out much, I had set my heart on coming into town to see this and had even saved up some money.

Imagine my upset when after shopping in Abingdon on Friday, my husband came home and told me that the so-called antiques market consisted of one stall selling soaps, one stall selling candles, another selling jewellery and – would you believe it – one whole stall selling antiques.

People it seemed were having a quick look then walking away.

On Saturday my husband was again in town (without me) and he said that the only addition to this French antiques market was our own English scouts selling bric-a-brac, where he bought me a beautiful vase to make up for my disappointment in not getting to see a real French antiques market in Abingdon.

Never mind, next year perhaps!
