IS THERE any logical reason why polling day for elections has to be on a working day in the week?

If polling day was on a Saturday or Sunday there would be no need for schools to be closed as they are commandeered as polling stations.

More people would not be at work therefore votes could be placed during the course of the day instead of many rushing to vote before going to work or desperately trying to get home before the stations shut.
