EVEN those who have seen it all before, cannot fail to be moved by the prospect of this next General Election in a few weeks time. Many are waiting with impatience and I bet, when it is officially announced, it will be something of an anti-climax, especially if it follows a budget of the usual mediocrity!
Nevertheless, election fever is in the air once again and speculation will be the other of the day. This time, however, there will be special interest in the outcome of this election for several groups of people.
As Oxford is replete in hospitals, none more so than our nurses, for instance, who will be wondering where their future really lies!
Edmund Burke once said, “For evil to triumph, good people need only be silent.”
So their (the nurses) vote will count this time round, like everyone else’s.
Mindful of the espousal of the past Tory and Labour governments in the privatisation and contracting - out of our coveted NHS - UKIP is committed to reducing middle management and providing 20,000 new nurses, 3,000 midwives and 8,000 more GP’s, including state enrolled nurses as UKIP believes in medical professionals learning best on hospital wards rather than in lecture theatres.
Oh, and an important adjunct, UKIP wants to end hospital car parking charges.
JOHN MADEN (UKIP Oxford West, Abingdon) Montagu Road Botley, Oxford
