ANOTHER shambles for Oxford transport by Oxfordshire county council. The roadworks at Green Road which should have been lifted for Christmas will now be in place all over the holiday period.

The reason is they have found cables which they didn’t know were there. Well the road was rebuilt a few years ago so to say they didn’t know amounts to incompetence. They were in charge at that time so knew they were there. The contractors should have been penalised if they didn’t finish on time.

Also Mr Nimmo Smith has said the Kennington hamburger came in on budget. In fact it was over budget and over time.

If the councillors don’t like cars or most motor vehicles, as it seems, they should stand down. We can’t all ride a bike to work or get public transport as we don’t work the hours they do.

Today’s letters

I would like them to do my hours – 18 miles to work starting at 4.30am and finishing at 4.30pm, then 18 miles home during roadworks.

The latest roadworks planned is the Plain to narrow it for cars to allow bikes and buses more right of way.

I think bike riders should start paying to use the roads or at least have insurance. The councillors should be ashamed to have a pay rise, but they don’t care. I bet they don’t even live in Oxford.
