HAVING read the article on November 17, “New traffic rules don’t go far enough says OAP”, I would like your readers to know that the parking management scheme was instigated by this parish council for doing its best to curb unwanted on-street parking along the Oxford Service Road.

Both myself and parish clerk Carl Smith have been actively involved in delivering letters and talking to inquisitive residents who have then had to let the county council know their opinions about the consultation, but a resident’s parking zone is not an option open for consideration in this district of Cherwell.

The result from the consultations has provided a balanced parking management scheme that complies with the Department of Transport’s procedures for a “test of reasonableness” by the local authority.

Now the county council has approved the on-street parking scheme, the parish council will be pressing for it to be implemented as soon as possible before Chiltern Railways opens their railway line to Marylebone in London.

Today’s letters

A request has also been made to have a parish representative on the Oxford Parkway/Water Eaton Park & Ride Parking Management Group.

This would provide a link with the Parish Parking Forum being set up with Thames Valley Police for addressing parking issues.
