Thanks for printing your article about the NHS strike on November 24. I am an NHA worker and was striking that day.
The quote from the DoH spokesman at the end of your article caught my eye, saying that the government can’t afford to honour the 1 per cent pay rise or 10,000 jobs will be lost.
I think that there is a dishonesty here.
The changes to the health service have been a political decision, and the privatisation that is going on all around us is costing the service millions in unnecessary costs.
Today’s letters
Since 2010, the NHS has lost 7,000 staff.
An Oxfam report last year highlighted that the government plans to lose a further 900,000 public sector jobs by 2018. Whatever happens with the 1 per cent, there are plans to lose further NHS staff.
Health workers went on strike across Oxfordshire recently over a pay dispute
The NHS is being deliberately run down and dismantled into private hands.
The public needs to be told what is going on.
What is being done to NHS pay is just the tip of the iceberg. There are 1.3 million staff looking after 64 million people in this country – let’s protect our precious NHS.
