I read an article regarding the plans for a Hungry Horse pub in Cowley on November 25.

Having read the objections I felt I should give another point of view. Hungry Horse are a family-orientated, food-based pub brand, (the clue being in the name.

This will be a brand new unit and if like other Hungry Horse pubs it will be well staffed, well managed and a focal point for the area.

The Nelson pub was a rundown, drinking only pub.

Today’s letters

How can you compare the two?

Hungry Horse pub would not tolerate antisocial behaviour.

It is true to point out that there are many secondary school children around, but seriously is anyone suggesting that they will pop into the Hungry Horse for a coke and a donut burger?

If you want to complain about inappropriate food then turn your thoughts to the takeaways across the road where the children go in droves for chips after school and you would know that if you were a local.

Does the Hungry Horse need a carpark?

I do not know but to say there is a lot of parking available is untrue and if this land is not being used then it should be perhaps on a short term lease until a decision is made whether it will be built on.

As a local resident I am embracing the idea of having a Hungry Horse pub on my doorstep.

It will fill another empty unit, it will provide a good number of jobs which will benefit our local young people and provide the start of careers for some.

It also offers good value to those who need to watch their budget and you can take your children to eat with you without feeling that you are committing a crime.

Let’s be a bit more positive about progress. If those units are not filled soon I think the walkway which runs past the empty units will end up being used for more dubious activities than skateboarding.
