Having read so many articles in the national newspapers regarding patients receiving sometimes quite appalling service in their local hospitals, how lucky we are in Oxfordshire to receive such wonderful service at the John Radcliffe Hospital, The Churchill Hospital and also the Nuffield Hospital.

Having reached the age when certain parts are wearing out, breaking down, ranging from a new hip, major back operation, mini-stroke and new excellent vision in one eye – with my partner receiving excellent treatment for cancer – in all situations, we received nothing but first class compassionate attention and always with good humour.

I know that some people may have complaints about cancelled appointments and delays at appointments. However, when one considers the thousands of appointments a day that hospitals deal with, I am sure that the vast majority of us will support these views.

One must also include the quite wonderful League of Friends cafes, all manned by “recycled teenagers”, again, with a smile, fresh rolls, fresh coffee and clean tables. Well done all of you.

It is all too easy in this day and age for some newspapers making the most of an isolated incident when things may go wrong. But I am sure that the majority of your readers will join me in expressing our sincere thanks to the consultants, doctors, nurses, cleaners, restaurant staff, League of Friends and volunteers. Well done to all of you. Thank you all for looking after us so well.
