I was concerned to read Martin Rose’s letter accusing West Way Community Concern of misrepresenting the size of Doric’s proposed development at West Way, Botley – ‘Surely numbers cannot represent community?, October 16’.
As a member of West Way Community Concern, I have spent many hours looking at the paper plans for the development, and don’t believe that we have misinterpreted them.
We also commissioned a scale model of the development something which Doric declined to do as it was not “cost-effective”.
Doric’s presentation of their proposals as “regeneration of the 1960s shopping precinct” is particularly disingenuous. Would they have had so many “click and support” hits on their website if they had also included the demolition of the homes of 65 elderly people?
Mr Rose also points out that the proposed development would draw on a much wider community. That is exactly the nub of our objections.
To be successful, it would need to attract people from further afield; these people could not get here without using our already congested roads, and bringing the area to a standstill.
