WHY on earth were the letters and photos of schoolgirls criticising schools over uniforms given so much coverage?

I am afraid it just emphasises the fact that many school children nowadays show no respect for their school or least of all teachers. There is no control anymore.

My school days were in the 1950s. We did not even dream of ‘doing our own thing’ or answer back. School uniform was worn everywhere without question, and teachers were addressed ‘Mr, Mrs or Miss’, there was controlled discipline.

Most school children from past generations turned out to be good decent citizens, let alone schools producing brilliant scientists, doctors, nurses, businessmen, teachers, lawyers, etc.

I am sorry but these days I blame parents for allowing or encouraging their children to ‘knock the system’.

Uniform teaches you respectability, correctness and good behaviour and conformity. Police, firemen, nurses, Armed Forces, sport teams, etc, etc, all wear uniform. At schools, uniform means everyone dresses the same, and students can get on with school work, and not be looking and talking about one another’s ‘dress’. Also money wasted on so-called ‘designer clothes’ would be better used on spare uniform or in many cases ‘a good balanced diet’. A well fed child is a happy child, and has a clearer mind for ‘learning’. I rest my case.
